Bulimba Truck Sewer upgrade

John Holland were tasked with finding a solution to potential corrosion issues when building the Bulimba trunk sewer. Environmental factors included an acidic soil and ground water situation and the potential for ingress into the structure. Also the build was within the immediate area of high voltage lines, which increased the risk of corrosion caused by stray current. Valbruna stainless reinforcement was called upon to provide a100 year solution to the problem. Upon consultation with the client Valbruna offer a mix of duplex and austenitic stainless steel to provide best value to the project. The austenitic sections from grade 316L stainless reinforcement gave protect for the areas were stray current was of concern due to its non magnetic properties. The rest of the structure was designed with grade 2304 1.4362 lean duplex which gave excellent corrosion backed up with extremely high strength.The structures were able to be designed lighter, stronger and more efficient to do the decrease in concrete cover required.
Material used 24 tonnes of grade 316L and 2304 1.4362 stainless reinforcement which was available ex stock in Brisbane.
Go Between Bridge
The $338 million project commenced in 2008 and was built in Brisbane by the Hale Street Link Alliance (Bouygues Travaux Publics, MacMahon Holdings, Seymour Whyte Holding and Hyder Consulting) The bridge linking West end to the Inner city by pass was built using 80 tonnes of grade 316L/1.4462 Reval® stainless steel reinforcement in 12mm, 16mm, and 24mm.Valbruna Australia has 30% of the required material in stock and was able to draw the balance of material from our Branches in Dubai and also the Valbruna main mill in Vincenza Italy to achieve the required time frame. Stainless steel reinforcement was specified for the critical elements of the bridge to minimise life cycle costs, improve structural integrity and corrosion resistance.

Port Botany Bulk Liquids Terminal 2

John Holland engaged Valbruna Australia to supply a solution for corrosion in the upcoming Bulk liquids terminal in Botany bay Sydney. This concrete load out jetty would be subject to immersion and splash zone attach from chlorides. Also due to the sensitive nature of the environment and the nature of the materials the jetty handled (mostly natural gas ) carbon steel was deemed not suitable for some critical areas of the jetty. Originally 316L grade was specified, however Valbruna offered and got specified lean duplex 2304 (1.4362 grade). This high strength lean duplex stainless steel gave the client a cost saving over 316L. Valbruna global strength and experience was utilized to specify the best value material for our customers, rather than selling only whats “on the shelf”.
Material used 36 tonnes of 2304 grade 1.4362 grade stainless reinforcing.
